The Guide To Living In A Home You Love

Everybody should love their home. It shouldn’t be a place in which you feel you simply “make do” with all the flaws. It’s the one place on earth over which you have control. No matter what kind of day you’ve had or how dreary your office space might be, home is a comfortable and relaxing place to which you can happily retreat. You should feel that warm and fuzzy feeling when you step through your front door. If you don’t feel that way about your home then this guide should help you to live in a place that you love once more.

Cozy and Warm

Assess the damage

The first step towards improving your home is to assess the existing damage.

Tearing Down

Go through your house and make a list of all the things you want to change so that you can start to make a plan for the big renovation project. You might find that the changes you want to make aren’t quite as overwhelming and time-consuming as you originally imagined, but the thing about interior design is that those small changes can make a huge difference. The best way to start is to declutter. Clearing out your junk will open up your home and reveal its potential space. You should also aim to get rid of all the old, outdated aspects of your house. Strip back the wallpaper and paint the walls white to create a neutral feel to your home. Replace carpet with natural wooden flooring. A timeless design is your goal; that way, you won’t have to worry about your home’s design becoming old and worn in a hurry.

Loving the White

Consider alternatives

Of course, your home might be beyond repair. Perhaps you live with your family and your kids just keep getting bigger and bigger. No matter how much you declutter and switch around the design, you only have so much potential space available (unless you have acres of land on which you can build). You shouldn’t feel cramped in your own home, so moving might be the best option for you. You might want to look into storage facilities throughout this process so as to alleviate the burden of moving and do it in more manageable chunks. Whatever your method, it might be time to start making a plan to move to a bigger house if you want to live in a home that the whole family can love.

Make your home spacious

We briefly discussed the importance of a timeless design in the point above. If you want to love your home then you want to make sure the design doesn’t follow trends; it should just look objectively good (or as close to “objectively” good as humanly possible). The best way to achieve this is to make your home as spacious as possible. Decluttering, as was also suggested in the point above, is a good place to start, but you can go further than this. You could put up shelving units on your walls to create additional storage space for your belongings. You could even convert unused spaces, such as your garage or attic, into a brand new family room. Think of creative ways to extend your home, and make it a more pleasant place in which to live.
